Fifth Ward Principal, Tony Castillo

“Hi, Fifth Ward Titan Families! While this year will be unlike any other, please know that my determination to serve you is unwavering, committed and rooted in our students’ success. No matter what obstacles we are faced with, believe that our values of TENACITY, INTEGRITY, TRUST, ACTION, NEXUS and SOCIAL JUSTICE will prevail. Please believe that the Fifth Ward Pantheon and what it stands for will prevail. Fifth Ward is a “student-centered” school that will do whatever it takes to fight through inequity and have our students come out winners in the end. Thank YOU for choosing us. You could have gone to other schools, but you chose us. For that I am grateful."

We want to remind you that the first day of school for the 2020-21 school year is Monday, Aug. 24.  All students will learn online for at least the first four weeks of school with live and recorded class instruction, daily schedules, assignments and personalized support for every student.

Campuses are tentatively set to reopen on Monday, Sept. 21—as conditions permit. We will continuously assess conditions and work closely with state, local and health officials to determine if additional online-only learning is required. We maintain the option provided by TEA to request up to four additional weeks of online learning through Oct. 19 if needed.

When campuses reopen, all students have the option to attend in person or continue learning virtually. YES Prep will offer devices and/or Wi-Fi to all students in grades K – 12 who need them, whether they’re learning virtually or in-person. Due to the overwhelming demand for devices across the country, we will distribute devices as we continue to receive them throughout the first semester.  High school students will receive a YES Prep device from their home campus the week of August 10 and distribution for elementary and middle school families, who indicated they need a device, will follow the week of August 17. Campuses will announce more distribution details to families in the coming weeks.
